Living in the foothills of the McDowell Mountains, of Scottsdale, Arizona, I am surrounded by the wonders of the Sonoran Desert. I listen to the coyotes howling and playing in the evenings. A family of javelina walk through my yard every night on their constant journey in search of food. Quail, cactus wrens and white-winged doves are frequent visitors throughout the day. Even a bobcat will pass through from time to time. The mountains provide me with breath-taking beauty, peace, and inspiration. And it is here, among these wonderful surroundings, that I craft Moonlight Creek flutes.

I founded Moonlight Creek flutes with the intent of creating and offering high quality, well-crafted, Native American style flutes at reasonable prices. I didn't imagine the personal satisfaction and spiritual gratification that I would gain by becoming a flute maker. It is a part of who and what I am. It is my flute journey, as I've come to call it, that continues to lead me in new, and positive, directions.

When I began making Native American flutes, I had a specific sound in mind. I wanted a clear and bright sound that could be felt resonating through the flute as it was played. I wanted the flute to speak back to me and assist in the transformation of my thoughts and emotions into very personalized and beautiful music. And, I wanted to feel connected with the Earth as I played. I think I've achieved my objective and am very excited about sharing these flutes with others.

My flutes are crafted from carefully inspected, select, tight grained western red cedar. This wood comes from the state of Washington in the Pacific Northwest. It's common to count seventy to eighty growth rings per inch in this wood. Each flute is hand-shaped, carefully voiced and precisely tuned to key. The sound surfaces and chambers are precision crafted so that the clearest, most resonant tones are consistently produced. Several coats of a clear, matte finish, non-toxic hard oil are applied to the entire flute. A hand-rubbed mixture of bee and other natural waxes is applied to the flutes exterior. This finishing process enhances the natural beauty of the wood and provides an excellent barrier against moisture. I've chosen the coyote as the animal effigy (or fetish) to sit upon my flutes. The coyotes are made from black walnut, maple, or cherry wood and secured to the flute with a deerskin tie. Hardly a day goes by when I don't see a coyote wander past my home.

Having a strong sense of how these flutes have a positive effect on people, I am constantly focused on putting forth my best efforts. I individually craft a limited number of flutes each year and only do so when in a good and peaceful state of mind. This helps to assure that every flute crafted will be a high quality instrument worthy of its owner. I am always in awe of what these simple pieces of wood allow and guide me to do with them. I am truly and humbly thankful for this gift given by the Creator.
